Judas' Last Words

from 33 A.D. by Dale Lund

lyrics

I watched a snake slither through the branches of a tree
I watched fascinated as the snake set its gaze on me
And I stood, not able, not wanting to leave
as the snake slid down and wrapped itself around me
Too late, I feel the coils, I smell its breath
the fangs of fascination will be my death

My God! What have I done!? I have betrayed your holy one
My God! What have I done!? I have crucified the most innocent one
How could I have given my dearest friend the kiss of death?

I've got nowhere to run, I've got nowhere to hide
I'm ashamed to show my face, I can't look into the eyes
of the ones who really loved, and even amongst his enemies I'm despised, despised, despised

Cursed! Cursed is this heart of mine
How could I have been so deaf, been so blind?
What a fool to think that I could gain
by selling my Master into Satan's domain
How did it all come down to this?

I remember not too long ago
when I first heard him I was captivated and I had to know
more of his power, more of his wisdom, of his love
And I recall the crowds were pressing in
The people loved him; they were clamoring to crown him king
But he would have none of it, no earthly crown
he said it's not the way of God

Damned silver and gold has turned my heart stone cold
And all my bitter tears could never bring back the golden years
Now what's to become of me?

I can't see the morning arising from this night
I have gouged out my own eyes, I have snuffed out the light
Where is the mercy for a traitor such as I?
I have killed the Lord of mercy
Surely I must die, must die, must die, must die

O snake, you're close enough I hear you speak, I feel your breath
I feel your coils around my neck

about

Dale Lund Vancouver, British Columbia

I was born into a creative family, where jam sessions and art days were part of the fabric of our growing up. Faith in our one true Creator is the weave that held it all together. I've been writing songs since my teens. I like to tell stories in my songs. In each story is a glimmer of the grace held out to us in all aspects of life. I hope as you listen, you will hear and see it. ... more
