So Many Things to Ask

(Romans 1:20) I got love. I got peace I got joy that never ceases Every molecule in me makes it plain for me to see I'm a part of the human race and would not be except for grace I got love. I got peace I got joy that never ceases Where did I get this face? Where did I get this mind? Why am I here at all? What am I here to find? My very questions are an answer My very questions are an answer I got life. I got dreams I make plans and clever schemes Every moral sense in me makes it plain for me to see I answer to a higher call or there's no answer at all I got life. I got dreams I make plans and clever schemes Where are we coming from? Where are we going to? Why think the thoughts we think? Why do the things we do? My very questions are an answer My very questions are an answer In perfect step the planets sashay across the sky in a cosmic dance orchestrated by the Master's hand In perfect beat a tiny heart keeps rhythm to it all And I begin to understand I'm a part of the Master's band I laugh, I cry. I live, I die Every breath that I inhale is one more breath I must exhale Now it may seem so clear to you but I tell you there's a deeper truth I laugh, I cry. I live, I die Why do I fight for life? Why do I grieve its loss? Why is there sacrifice? Why do we count the cost? My very questions are an answer My very questions are an answer

(Job 38:2) He wonders what it is that turns her on She wonders what he is turning He figures he is really just the one she figures he could use learning He moves in with the beat that he learned from the video She moves away to seek advice from a friend on the telephone And everybody's talking about the way things ought to be Everybody's talking, but nobody's listening Everybody wants there own way And nobody's listening to the One who made the day He learns he is really someone else according to the latest research She learns that maybe she is god herself according to the latest new church He moves along with the wave of emotion that is sweeping over She moves in tune with the past and the moon and says the world owes her And everybody's talking about the way things ought to be Everybody's talking, but nobody's listening Everybody wants there own way And nobody's listening to the One who made the day He says he's free now to express himself as he's chained to the latest trend She says she's free to dictate her own health as she makes a cut that will not mend He moves in step with the beat of the song of the Pied Piper She moves so far from her home that none but God can find her And everybody's talking about the way things ought to be Everybody's talking, but nobody's listening Everybody wants there own way And nobody's listening to the One who made the day

(Proverbs 22:2) With a tip of the hat, a shuffle of the feet you walk on by, on down the street And I wonder as I watch you as I do every day What's your story? What would you have to say if anyone took the time to ask you? I've heard the stories, can't say if they're true They color you black, they color you blue But I wonder as I watch you as you go your way What's your story? What would you say if anyone cared to ask you? I once caught a glimpse of your eyes on mine We lingered for a moment - seemed an awful long time And a lifetime of shadows seemed to dance on your face And I saw for a moment myself in your place Yes a lifetime of shadows seemed to dance on your face And I saw for a moment myself in your place One cold day you never came by And I wondered if you'd finally died And I wondered as I missed you if you'd had any friends or if you'd come to a quiet lonely end I'd never cared to ask you I once caught a glimpse of your eyes on mine We lingered for a moment - seemed an awful long time And a lifetime of shadows seemed to dance on your face And I saw for a moment myself in your place Yes a lifetime of shadows seemed to dance on your face And I saw for a moment myself in your place

(1 Corinthians 13) Love is an elusive thing It's wild and unpredictable - try to tame it you might feel its sting The more you want it, you can't find it When you find it you can't keep it And if you try to cage this bird, she won't sing 'cause love is an elusive thing Love is such an elusive thing A mystery that evades all your probing You can't buy it, nor collect it nor demand it, nor expect it Love will never bend to your whims and kiss your ring 'cause love is an elusive thing Love is full of blood, sweat and tears But it'll stick with you all throughout the years Love's sweet joy will always stay if you're sure to always give it away 'cause love is an elusive thing Love is an elusive thing It follows no agenda; subject to no feelings You can't bribe it, nor impress it nor hide it, nor possess it Love is the servant of all but has only one King 'cause love is an elusive thing Love is an elusive thing It's wild and unpredictable - try to tame it you might feel its sting The more you want it, you can't find it When you find it you can't keep it And if you try to cage this bird, she won't sing 'cause love is an elusive thing

I 02:40
(Proverbs 16:2) I used to be, I used to see, I used to feel everything revolved around me - or so I thought I was the man, I had the plan, I did it all without you - or so I thought Without you I could only see myself Without you I could see nobody else But you laughed and laughed laughed until you cried And a flood of tears that drowned and drowned my pride I was devout, I had no doubt, I figured out everything there was to know about you - or so I thought I was the man, I had the plan, I did it all for you - or so I thought Without you I could only see myself Without you I could see nobody else But you laughed and laughed laughed until you died and your blood ran down and drowned my pride
6.
(Romans 6:6) There's this old man who won't quite lay down and die There's this old man who won't quite lay down and die I buried him some time ago, but he keeps coming back to life When I'm in conversation that old man keeps buttin' in When I'm in conversation that old man keeps buttin' in He's the death of my relationships, but I will not let him win There's this old man who won't quite lay down and die There's this old man who won't quite lay down and die I buried him some time ago, now you may think that's just a lie Well I took the old man down into the river and there I let him go I took the old man down into the river and there I let him go I held on to the Rock of Ages and let the old man go

Monster 04:18
(Genesis 4:7) There's a monster in the bedroom just underneath the bed He's crawling out to get me as soon as the lights go out There's a monster in the bedroom just underneath the bed He's crawling out to get me as soon as the lights go out Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the bright light Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the straight line There's a monster in the basement just underneath the stairs And he's crawling out to get me as soon as I get down There's a monster in the basement just underneath the stairs And he's crawling out to get me as soon as I get down Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the bright light Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the straight line There's a monster in my head just underneath my thoughts He's crawling out to get me as soon as I turn around There's a monster in my head just underneath my thoughts He's crawling out to get me as soon as I turn around Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the bright light Hold my hand, hold my hand Keep me walking in the straight line
8.
(Romans12:2) I have made up my mind not to yield one moment to the subtle persuasions of the snake I have set my course for the land of promise One look back may be my final mistake And I do not walk alone The Lover of my soul goes with me with a love that guards so jealously a heart that has a tendency to wander away No I do not walk alone The Comfort of my soul goes with me My Companion is the very One Who spoke the earth, the stars, and sun into empty space With every secret thought in every secret moment I either build up my character or tear it down I am guided by the ancient words Words that neither change nor fade Words upon which the universe was made And I do not walk alone The Lover of my soul goes with me with a love that guards so jealously a heart that has a tendency to wander away No I do not walk alone The Comfort of my soul goes with me My Companion is the very One Who spoke the earth, the stars, and sun into empty space

(James 5:16) He fuels the fire of his anger with a drink The only laughter in the house is on the TV She hides the hurt in a chocolate cream dessert It's his favorite she knows. It's so easy But still the pain doesn't go away But we can hide it till another rainy day But still the pain doesn't go away What would happen if we tried to pray? What would happen if we tried to pray? His youthful charms fail him now Nothing that he says relieves the aching Her dreams of what it should be like Have all gone down the drain, just like her baking But still the pain doesn't go away But we can hide it till another rainy day But still the pain doesn't go away What would happen if we tried to pray? What would happen if we tried to pray? There was a time when it all seemed so right A time when they'd talk well into the night They'd made their plans with promised devotion But now they're only going through the motions He stares into the bathroom mirror the image of his father before him She quickly hides another tear but he passes by without noticing But still the pain doesn't go away But we can hide it till another rainy day Still the pain doesn't go away What would happen if we tried to pray? What would happen if we tried to pray? There was a time when it all seemed so right A time when they'd talk well into the night They'd made their plans with promised devotion But now they're only going through the motions Oh still the pain doesn't go away But we can hide it till another rainy day Still the pain doesn't go away What would happen if we tried to pray? What would happen if we tried to pray? What would happen if we tried to pray?

Drowsy rain-gray streets of autumn drag my weary steps to you Boulevards of passing sameness Passing strangers, nothing new Balalaikas playing brightly through smokey cafe doorway there lifts my step for just a moment Just a moment, I'll be near Simple pleasures for my lovely All we have is what we hold Simple pleasures in a country where we do just what we're told Simple people such as we taste the dust and feel the cold Simple people such as we all we hope is to grow old God have mercy. God is able to put flowers on our table Factory-blackened hands hold on to precious parcel worth my wage bought outside the railway station from babushka twice my age Up the gray-stone darkened stairway hear my steps, my heart beat too Ah, my lovely, chase the gloom I've bought a rainbow just for you Simple pleasures for my lovely All we have is what we hold Simple pleasures in a country where we do just what we're told Simple people such as we taste the dust and feel the cold Simple people such as we all we hope is to grow old God have mercy. God is able to put flowers on our table

I steal quietly into her room and gaze lovingly at my sleeping beauty as her tiny form curls up in the corner of her crib and I am moved by a strong sense of duty to get down on my knees and pray Please Jesus, teach me how to love her to be her friend, her teacher, her protector, her Daddy In this motionless moment perfect peace is nearly mine as I sing softly with affection to my daughter But the moment is soon lost as I ponder on her future and the burdens that lay heavy on the heart of a father I get down on my knees and pray Please Jesus, please reach her and love her Be her friend, her teacher, her protector, her everything And I know these days will pass by in no time at all Soon I'll be an old man and she'll be a lady And all of our hopes and prayers for our child we invest into the hands of God while she's just a baby And I imagine everyone who will come across her way And I imagine as I face them, what I'd say This is my daughter; treat her with dignity She's my treasure, my princess. Treat her like royalty I get down on my knees and pray Please Jesus, teach me how to love her to be her friend, her teacher, her protector, her Daddy

She twirls around And as she passes by she smiles and laughs then tumbles to the ground The music plays and you can see that she's a princess in a palace in a country far away She's a lovely dancer with a story to tell It's in her eyes, her hands, her feet, her smile Oh she tells it very well She's a lovely dancer, and she's my girl She'll dance for those who really take the time to watch and marvel as the story unfolds The music plays and you can see that she's a princess in a palace in a country far away She's a lovely dancer with a story to tell It's in her eyes, her hands, her feet, her smile Oh she tells it very well She's a lovely dancer, and she's my girl

I heard the news just the other day Papa got a new heart , the old has passed away Mama could scarcely contain her joy when the sad old man became a happy boy She said, "Son, this is why I pray" Well I watched him close to see if I could see what in the world was causing all this glee The first thing I noticed was a change in the face That crusty old mug was showing flickers of grace I said, "Papa, what does this mean?" He said, "It took the Lord some sixty years to knock me down and unplug my ears But I finally heard the sweetest song He'd been trying to sing me all along" He said, "Son, can't you hear those angels sing?" Well it seems to me a new era has arrived Papa was a dead man, now he is alive The bitter night that held him sway has been eclipsed by the Sunny Day And now he's singing all the time
14.
(Matthew 18:3) I've so many things to ask I don't know where to start And if the answers are so clear will it change my heart? And I know you are not obliged to tell me anything And yet it seems your desire is that we would know our King If indeed you made the world why do we not believe it? And if indeed you give us life why do we not receive it? We tend to take this life you give and make it something less And when we tread where beauty lay we leave an ugly mess If indeed you hold the wind and rock the sea can I hold you in my heart? Or will you hold me? And is it true all my vain attempts to climb to holy ground will leave me destitute until in you my life is found? If indeed you hold the wind and rock the sea can I hold you in my heart? Will you hold me?

about

Dale Lund Vancouver, British Columbia

I was born into a creative family, where jam sessions and art days were part of the fabric of our growing up. Faith in our one true Creator is the weave that held it all together. I've been writing songs since my teens. I like to tell stories in my songs. In each story is a glimmer of the grace held out to us in all aspects of life. I hope as you listen, you will hear and see it. ... more
