Simon of Cyrene

from 33 A.D. by Dale Lund

lyrics

Still in my back are the slivers of the cross
His blood is still on my clothes
The cry for death still rings in my ears
The dust still fills my nose

I just happened to be passing by
on my way to Jerusalem
I just came to make a sacrifice
on my way to Jerusalem

I stopped to watch them take a man to die
Out they came from Jerusalem
I heard the shouts, the women cry
Out they came from Jerusalem

Still in my mind is the look on his face
as he stumbled 'neath the timber's weight
His eyes showed no fear, only sorrow and love
A love so undeserving of such hate

I felt the sword upon my shoulder
as I stood outside Jerusalem
A harsh command and my heart grew colder
as I stood outside Jerusalem

Against my will I carried his burden
away from Jerusalem
I felt the sting of those who cursed him
away from Jerusalem

It's a strange thing - how shall I start
As I took hold of his cursed cross
He took hold of my sinful heart
So unwillingly I carried the symbol of his shame
Yet, in love he took my curse. I'm the one to blame.

As I walked with him to the place of death
it was there I heard forgiveness on his breath
Like a sacrificial lamb, like a sheep before the knife
he was placed before the altar
and I was given life

about

Dale Lund Vancouver, British Columbia

I was born into a creative family, where jam sessions and art days were part of the fabric of our growing up. Faith in our one true Creator is the weave that held it all together. I've been writing songs since my teens. I like to tell stories in my songs. In each story is a glimmer of the grace held out to us in all aspects of life. I hope as you listen, you will hear and see it. ... more
